Can a Christian Attend a Gay Wedding?

Homosexuality is forbidden in the bible. There are some Christians who are gay (Leviticus 18:22). According to 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of heaven. If you have Christian or non believer gay friends, you should preach the gospel to them and point out relevant bible verses to turn them to Christ. You should tell them that God can heal their homosexuality problem and forgive them if they turn to Christ.

It is your responsibility to share the gospel with them since you know them. If they believe in the gospel, you have won a soul for Jesus. If they don’t believe in what you preach, you will not be held accountable for their souls since you have done your part. May be God will send someone else will come along away to preach the gospel to them.

Gay relationship is against the natural law that God set (Romans 1:24-32; Leviticus 20:13). In Genesis 1, God created a male and a female and join them together so that they become husband and wife (Mark 10:6-9). The male is Adam and the female is Eve. Only a male and a female can start a family and have children. Same sex marriage involve partners of the same gender so they are not able to have children together via the natural way (Romans 13:8-10). Some Christians may argue that they are only showing support for their loved one’s gay wedding.

However, if you attend a gay wedding, it gives others the impression that Christians allow gay marriage. Compromising with the world to allow something that is forbidden in God’s commandment is wrong (1 John 2:15-17; Ephesians 2:2). If you keep on compromising, you will find that slowly your mindset is change to think that gay marriage is right (Ephesians 5:11; 2 Corinthians 4:4). Your heart is the fountain of life (Proverbs 4:23; Luke 14:26). You must protect your heart and mind so that it won’t be corrupted with worldly practices (Romans 12:1-2). When you attend a gay wedding, it shows that you approve it. Consequently, the gay couple may not be convicted and turn to Christ when you try to speak the gospel to them.

If someone invite you to a gay wedding, you should tell him you can’t attend it no matter what the consequences will be (James 4:17; 2 Corinthians 6:14). If you want to be a Christian, you must deny yourself and not do what you want but do what God want (James 1:27; Galatians 5:16). You must put God first and consider his commandments before taking action in all that you do (Colossians 2:8). If you love your loved ones more than Jesus, you are not worthy to be a believer.
