What Can We Learn From David And Jonathan’s Friendship?

David and Jonathan were best friends. 1 Samuel 18:1 states that Jonathan loved David as much as himself. The love between David and Jonathan is a friendship love, not a homosexuality relationship that involves sex. David is a man after God’s own heart and there are many places in the bible that speak against homosexuality in many places.

David and Jonathan also have a covenant relationship, where David promised to show mercy to the surviving family members of Jonathan’s household if Jonathan die. Their friendship is true in that they help one another. Jonathan helped David to escape from Saul. David kept his promise to Jonathan and took care of his son, Mephibosheth after he died. True friends will help one another. The second most important commandment in the bible is to love your neighbor as yourself. We are to love others as much as ourselves, doing our best to help others whenever we can.

Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 18:22 KJV)
