What Can We Learn from Abraham in the Bible?

abraham
Abraham is the first ancestor of the Israelite people. He was blessed by God because he trusted in him. Abraham and his wife, Sarah, did not have children until they were very old in age. However, God promised Abraham that he will make his descendants as many as the sands on the sea shore and stars in the sky. When Sarah saw that she couldn’t have children, she let Abraham sleep with her maidservant, Hagar. Hagar bore Abraham a son called Ishmael when he was 86 years old. Because Abraham trusted in God, God gave Sarah a son called Isaac, the child of promise, when he was 100 years old. Isaac is the child of promise because his descendants will be the ones that inherit the land of Canaan. Isaac had twin sons including Jacob and Esau. Jacob, also known as Israel, had 12 sons, who formed the nation of Israel.
Abraham is the spiritual father of all who put their faith in Jesus Christ. He is the physical father of the Jewish people. God tested Abraham by asking him to offer his son, Isaac, in somewhere on Mount Moriah to him. Abraham obeyed God and did as he was told. When Isaac asked him where is the animal for the offering, Abraham replied God will provide it. Abraham knew God will provide the animal for the offering as he believed in God’s promise, that Isaac will be the promise child, that inherit the land of Canaan (Genesis 22:6-14),
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV)
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6 KJV)
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about. (Psalm 32:10 KJV)
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him. (Psalm 28:7 KJV)
Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. (Romans 15:13 KJV)
What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. (Psalm 56:3-4 KJV)
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is. (Jeremiah 17:7 KJV)
By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called.  Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.(Hebrews 11:17-19 KJV)
And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. (Galatians 3:29 KJV)
