Is Gossiping Good or Bad in a Christian Perspective?

gossip-300x198

Gossiping is reporting about other people’s business. It is easy to gossip about other people. For example, when someone talk to you about somebody, you would automatically start to think of the bad behaviors of that person and talk about it. You must always keep watch over your speech and make sure you don’t participate in any conversation that involves gossiping others. Instead, you should say things that edify and build up other fellow Christians so that they can be closer in their relationships to God.

Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. (Ephesians 4:29 KJV)

The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself. (Ecclesiastes 10:12 KJV)

O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. (Matthew 12:34 KJV)

Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. (Romans 14:19 KJV)

Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification. (Romans 15:2 KJV)

Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. (Ephesians 5:4 KJV)

And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. (1 Timothy 5:13 KJV)

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. (Colossians 3:8 KJV)

For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults. (2 Corinthians 12:20 KJV)

Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (Colossians 4:6 KJV)

Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. (Proverbs 26:20 KJV)

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. (1 Thessalonians 5:11 KJV)

And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears. (Isaiah 11:3 KJV)

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. (Proverbs 26:22 KJV)

Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge. (James 4:11 KJV)

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (James 1:27 KJV)

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. (Exodus 20:16 KJV)

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. (Ephesians 4:25 KJV)

To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. (Titus 3:2 KJV)

And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. (James 3:6 KJV)

These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. (Proverbs 6:16-19 KJV)
