How did Ehud Defeat Eglon?

Ehud kills Eglon

God used Ehud to save the Israelite from the oppression of King Eglon. Ehud carried out his assassination on King Eglon by making a double edge sword and hid them on the right thigh under his clothes. Ehud was chosen to deliver the tribute to King Eglon. After he had delivered the tribute, he left but return to see King Eglon afterwards. Ehud told King Eglon that he had a secret message. King Eglon, unaware of Ehud’s plot to kill him, sent his attendants away.

After the attendants had left, Ehud went near to King Eglon, and said he has a message for him and then he took out the double edge sword he made and stabbed him so that his intestines come out. The handle of the sword can be seen from the back. After that, he escaped and assembled the Israelite to attack and defeat the Moabite army. On that day, God gave Israel a great victory.

Ehud is from the tribe of Benjamin and he was a left handed man. Left handedness is often seen as a disability by people yet God is able to use him to save Israel. This shows that God does not discriminate when he choose people to serve him and carry out his will. The story of Ehud also showed that God listen to the cries of his people.

The Israelite was under the oppression of King Eglon because of their sin of idolatry. After they confess and repent from their idolatry sin, God heard their prayer and sent Ehud to deliver them. If you want God to answer your prayer, you must live a holy life for him. If you have committed sins, you must confess and repent from them.
